Genesis Hammers came into being through the collaborative design efforts of hammer makers Ron Jordan and Bob Bedard, and musician/teacher Dan Landrum.  Dan is a professional percussionist that took up the Hammered Dulcimer nearly two decades ago, and his skills on the dulcimer have led him to play in a multitude of settings from orchestras and concert halls to touring with Yanni.

This is what Dan has to say about the Genesis Hammers:
β€œThe way you hammer is more important than the hammers themselves, but have you ever considered that your hammers may force the way you play and learn?  Adjusting your hammering ergonomics isn't easy, especially when you already know how to play, but I think I've discovered a way to get your hammers to help you out in the process. The Genesis hammers are unusually well balanced and have what will at first seem like a ridiculously over-padded striking surface. This combination of balance and volume control isn't very complicated when you think about it, but when you spend time practicing with these hammers you'll find your grip naturally loosens as you attempt to get the hammer heads moving in a gentle arc, pivoting from your fingertips. That's really all there is to it; that, and a whole lot of practice. The good news is that it will be practice that is easier on the ears.”

Dan notes the Genesis design has

  • wide, comfortable handle that guides your fingers to a better grip

  • carefully crafted balance point to maximize fingertip control

  • heavy padding helps you play with greater hammer motion

  • greater hammer motion helps you realize a relaxed grip

  • a relaxed grip leads to less arm motion and more relaxed playing, and relaxed playing means greater fluency, accuracy, and speed
